Alaska Department of Fish and Game Activities Planned for Summer 2026
Fish Passage Surveys

In the 2026 field season the ADF&G Fish Passage Program will continue culvert survey work in the Yukon Drainage. Two technicians have been hired from the Fairbanks area. Last summer, technicians focused on surveying 142 culverts in Fairbanks, and along the Elliot and Steese Highways. This summer our focus will shift further north, with surveys primarily taking place along the Dalton Highway. Program biologists will host a free fish passage surveying workshop with classroom and field components on June 3rd and 4th. Email michael.mazzacavallo@alaska.gov for information.

2026 Cost Share Program
The ADF&G Streambank Habitat Rehabilitation and Restoration “Cost Share” Program, a joint effort with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Serve, will host its annual streambank habitat restoration workshop in Fairbanks on July 15th and 16th. The first day will be in the classroom discussing concepts such as fluvial geomorphology, fish biology, value of healthy riparian habitats, natural and anthropogenic causes of erosion, and bioengineering erosion control techniques. The second day will be a field day in which participants will install a restoration project utilizing the techniques learned in class the previous day. This is a great opportunity for landowners, contractors, agency staff, permitters, and salmon enthusiasts to learn fish friendly alternatives to erosion mitigation. To register please email dfg.dsf.streambankrehab@alaska.gov.

The Cost Share Program is accepting applications for streambank restoration projects to be funded and implemented in 2027. Interested individuals can contact biologists at dfg.dsf.streambankrehab@alaska.gov to schedule a site visit. More information, including the 2027 project proposal form, can be found on the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website. A revised version of Streambank Revegetation and Protection: A Guide for Alaska was published in the fall of 2025. Physical copies are now available in most ADF&G Habitat Section offices and a digital version is available here.
